It's been consistently demonstrated by experts in science, medicine and psychology that the mind and body are interconnected, and in essence, are inseparable.
This means our thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes can either benefically or adversely affect our physical well being.
The converse is also true: how well we take care of our physical body (what/when/where/why and how we eat, whether or not we exercise regularly, the amount of sleep we get, if we practice meditation and relaxation techniques daily) impacts our mental state - again, positively or negatively.
Concrete, irrefutable evidence of the mind-body connection began in the 1920s, when the fight/flight/freeze response was identified in the brain area called the amygdala. When we are in a highly stressed, frightened or anxious mental state, our body immediately accelerates the production of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol to prepare us to escape or confront whatever we are perceiving as a danger or threat.
This fight or flight part worked extremely well to our benefit our cave-dwelling ancestors who were dealing with saber-tooth tigers and the like. (The freeze part - not so much.)
However, while this bodily response is fantastic for handling short-term stressors, many people today are living with chronic stress levels every day that are adversely affecting their physical, mental and emotional wellness. Having accelerated levels of stress-response hormones coursing throughout your body every day is maladaptive, and has a cumulative negative mind-body impact.
But there's more.
Being caught up in old, worn out, self-sabotaging patterns of unproductive and deleterious thoughts, feelings, beliefs, actions, behaviors and attitudes is also damaging to you both personally and professionally - harming your relationships with family, friends, co-workers, as well as reducing your ability to effectively achieve goals, handle conflicts, and make the empowering and liberating lifestyle changes necessary in order to optimize the connection between your mind and body.
To add to the problem, many people are not treating their mind and body with care: obesity, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, cancer, insomnia, low energy levels and decreased mental clarity and focus are increasing annually - yet the same people who are suffering with these ailments are often completely oblivious to the fact the choices they are making are at the root of their problems - and it is up to them to embrace responsibility, learn how to be self-compassionate and fear-less, and become proactive regarding improving their well-being on all le
Fact: You are at choice as to the quality of what your Life experience will be - regardless of the challenges you may be facing.
Every area of your Life improves when the mind-body connection is optimized.
And yes, doing so can be a very enjoyable experience because it means regaining control over your Life.
There are no quick fixes. No pills you can take. No instant gratification. It takes a combination of consistent effort and practice with repetition over time - but if you truly want to, you can improve your experience of Life, beginning immediately.
There is simply one question you need to ask yourself:
